The Twist was written by rock and roll artist, Hank Ballard, and originally released in 1958 by Hank and his band, the Midnighters as a B-side to "Teardrops on Your Letter".

Recorded by Chubby Checker: 1960

Released: June 1960 reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It became the only song at that time to reach number 1 in two separate chart runs when it resurfaced and topped the charts again for two weeks starting January 13, 1962.
